Dean Sameshima: FRAGMENTS
To mark the exhibition Fragments by artist Dean Sameshima, which was shown at the NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein in the summer of 2025, the accompanying catalog is now being published by Bierke Verlag. The 232-page hardcover volume brings together three art-historical essays on Sameshima’s work as well as a conversation with the artist. The authors examine Sameshima’s entire body of work and contextualize the series being alone, figures , and fragments—featured in the exhibition at the Kunstverein—within the broader context of the American photographer and painter’s oeuvre. The catalog reinforces this visually by compiling archival sections with reproductions of works, sources, and exhibition views spanning over four decades. In addition, the volume features exhibition views from Aachen as well as complete reproductions of all three series, including works that were not shown in Aachen. As a special highlight, the catalog includes an exclusive new short story, The Guy, by British author Charlie Porter, who caused a sensation last year with his debut novel Nova Scotia House.
