NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein is pleased to present Christine Liebich and Gerold Miller, two contemporary sculptural positions, in their first joint double exhibition.

Gerold Miller is showing a site-specific work from his Monoform series that enters into a dialogue with the spatial and architectural conditions of NAK and reinterprets them. Aluminium angle sections arranged parallel to each other on the wall open up a defined space through which the walls of the exhibition venue can be reflected as new image spaces. The negative thus created invites viewers to visualize the image. The object becomes the limitation of an illusory and imaginative spatiality.

In his artistic work, Gerold Miller pushes the boundaries of sculpture, architecture and image. With his works he creates a connection between sculptural object, space and imaginary picture and thus moves between minimalism and conceptual art. With the series Monoform, he continues to advance this interest. Thereby, Miller leaves the pictorial dimension with the minimalist sculpture on one hand and approaches it again via the conceptual idea on the other.

Christine Liebich negotiates the dualisms of our present time in her sculptures. The works, made from mild steel, interrogate the relationship between culture and nature. In the work series Permanent Moment, working almost naturalistically for the first time, powder-coated steel dandelions become symbols of hope, strength and confidence. The sculptor’s works appear fragile and at the same time captivate with their precise drawing quality, lightness and elegance. For Liebich, they are to be understood as drawings in space, timeless snapshots, equally shimmering in the light of the sun and the exhibition space

The sculptor has created a single room-filling installation work on the upper floor of the Kunstverein. In addition, the artist is showing in the outdoor area of the surrounding park as well as on the rooftop and thereby in the public space two large-format sculptures from the new series Permanent Moment. Gerold Miller also displays a sculpture from the Verstärker series in the outdoor space.

In the context of Christine Liebich’s exhibition at NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, the artist’s first monograph will be published by Distanz. The catalogue provides a comprehensive insight into her artistic practice and documents the genesis of the presentation in Aachen.

Both artists will also be releasing new editions to accompany the exhibition, which will be available at the Kunstverein for the duration of the exhibition.
